obama's spending his first full day at white house after re-election in closed door meetings. team obama tells "the washington post" they were confident in victory but admit they were surprised how quickly the race he was called for the president. we're learning more about the president's re-election strategy. in the new yorker the biggest decision was to spend 20% of the total budget on a summer television advertising blitz attacking romney. the idea was to define rom nil early while he was recovering from the primary. with the celebration over, it's certainly back to work at the white house. topping the agenda, how the administration plans to work with a divided congress to vide the looming fiscal cliff. kristen welker joins me. the president has a trip planned already to myanmar on that trip agenda. what else do we know about this? >> reporter: tamron, this is big news. the white house announcing that president obama will visit myanmar in just about ten days. this, of course, comes after secretary of state hillary clinton visited several months ago. the united states has been working

me sad. but there's a bit of me that says, look, we just went through a presidential election and neither candidate said one word about $7 billion a month in afghanistan and 300 or more killed or wounded a month. sometimes i wonder about america's priorities and what we think is important. >> absolutely. you have some people who say this is a distraction from the fiscal cliff debate and a lot of other things. do you believe given what we know now and the answers that must be presented, are there legitimate questions regarding if there was e-mails or classified information? the volume alone that's alleged with general allen, are there legitimate questions that can placed without asking if our priorities are in line? you have to hold people accountable in the armed forces. that's our rule 100% of the time. but again, let me go back to the basics. petraeus is one of the the most talented people we have produced in the country's history. he's been at war for ten years. we needed him as a cia director. i'm sad for him and his family and the country. we have lost him in this manner.

the storm and before the election. we wanted to bring that to you. in the meantime, we're following breaking news out of tell aaviv where warning sirens have been b blaring in response to bombs. they're mobilized tanks and personnel to the gaza border. the israeli military says they have not ruled out a ground assault on the palestinian territory. three israelis were killed today when a rocket fired from the gaza strip hit they are apartment. the israeli defense force says more than 100 rockets have been fired into southern israel in just the past 24 hours. palestinians all fired a long-range missile today that landed just 12 miles from tel aviv. in gaza today hundreds of palestinians attended the funeral of a hamas military chief who was killed yesterday in a targeted attack. the israeli government has claimed credit for this incident, even posted video of the air strike at the precise time that it went down. it took to twitter to warn other hamas leaders to not go above ground in the coming days. hamas responded by saying israel has, quote, opened the gates of hell. last night president ob
